Facts about the deadly disease

As a part of my project work, I was asked be find out the mesothelioma statistics during my final semester. As I don’t know anything about mesothelioma I have referred various books and surfed on net, where I go to know various interesting facts about mesothelioma. Mesothelioma is a cancer affects the internal organs of our body especially lungs. Mesothelioma cancer is mainly occurred due to the exposure to the asbestos. Asbestos fibers which are inhaled through mouth and nose on regular bases will become embedded in the lungs and thus leads to mesothelioma cancer. Some of the common symptoms of this cancer are blood clotting, tiredness, blood vomiting, weight loss, nausea and severe headache. Some of the statistical facts about the disease are
• Asbestos is a natural mineral when over exposed leads to lung cancer
• Above 70% to 80% people working in asbestos based companies are victims of mesothelioma.
• From past 50 years, more than 7 million people are diagnosed with mesothelioma only in USA.
• Basically there are two types of Mesothelioma, Pleural and Peritoneal.
• It takes almost 10-15 years to shows it symptoms. Some of the common symptoms of the disease are unusual weight loss, shorting of breath, chest pain, abdominal pain, blood vomiting and blood clots.
• If the disease is not treated on time, may lead to the death of the patient.
• Treatment for the disease includes removal of tumors, chemotherapy or radiation therapy. The treatment varies from person to person depending on their age, physical condition and depending on the affected area.
• This disease is more commonly seen in men when compare to women. It is largely seen in men between the age group of 60-70 than in men between 30-40.
• As per the studies every year 3000 patients are losing their lives due to Mesothelioma.
